Master’s Programs

Professional MAMC – Multimedia Journalism

The Professional Master of Arts in Mass Communication – Multimedia Journalism program in the UF College of Journalism and Communications focuses on developing and enhancing the multimedia skills for those who plan to go into the journalism industry. The program is filled with courses designed to improve students’ storytelling skills and infuse those skills with cutting-edge technology necessary to succeed in today’s fast-paced journalism industry. Students work closely with faculty members who have a broad range of professional backgrounds in journalism and will be immersed into a state-of-the-art newsroom for hands-on experience. Adjunct faculty and guest speakers further broaden students’ exposure to professional practices.

The Journalism specialization at the master’s level will provide in-depth skills in online, audio and visual training.  It is designed for students interested in all areas of non-broadcast journalism (i.e. newspapers, magazines and online publishing). The program also allows students to choose their focus and develop expertise in the subject area (e.g., health, sports, business, etc.) in which they hope to work as journalists. Students will work as a cohort learning the various multimedia skills, beginning with newsroom training during the summer session.

The specialization normally requires two years for completion and students will only be accepted to begin in the second summer session. The deadline for application is February 15, although later admissions will be considered if space allows. Students are expected to complete a professional-caliber project (e.g., professional-quality Web site or online magazine) employing the multimedia skills learned in the program [40 credit hours minimum].
