I attended FSPA last year for the first time as a Junior in high school and it was absolutely fabulous. The hotel was perfect and had plenty of room for everything that was going on. However, this year, I can’t say that I was even an eighth of the way thrilled for this year’s hotel. As soon as we walked into our room, it was damp and had a moldy smell. We tried everything to get it to dry up, but it wasn’t working. There were water leakage stains on the ceiling, mold in the shower, a leaky toilet, a broken coffee pot, and rusty door hinges. Then, when we ate at Augustine’s we received barely any service and they tried charging us 18% gratuity for a party of three, when the menu said a party of 6+ would receive the addition. When we asked to speak to the manager, we were forced to wait 20 minutes, and when we spoke to her, she didn’t even apologize for the inconvenience. While we were there at Augustine’s, the table across from us found hair in their food, which was absolutely repulsive to us. Then, Friday night at the banquet, one of our own newspaper staffers found hair in her food! Not only that, but I thought that it was absolutely ridiculous that the vegetarians were forced to sit at their own tables, segregated from the rest of their friends and attendees. When it came time for competitions, they were very unorganized. For the twitter competition, there was no one there to take down the names and accounts of the competitors and we were forced to find a random sheet of paper to record them; which, in my opinion, is completely unprofessional.
Overall, it was a horrible, dirty experience. And especially as a senior, and it being my last year, it all ended on a horrible note.
