Biography

Julie E. Dodd is a professor in the Journalism Department. She teaches Writing for Mass Communication (MMC 2100) and Mass Communication Teaching (MMC 6930). She was the college's Teacher of the Year in 1996 and twice has received a TIP Award for outstanding teaching. She serves on the boards of the Journalism Education Association and Quill and Scroll International. She is co-chair of the JEA Mentoring Committee, which coordinates a program to match experienced media teachers with new high school media advisers. She has served as head and vice-head of the AEJMC Scholastic Journalism Division. For 11 years she was the executive director of the Florida Scholastic Press Association. She also has been the director of the Kentucky High School Press Association. She has taught high school journalism and advised newspapers and yearbooks in Lexington, Ky., and Oak Ridge, Tenn. She was a sports columnist for The Oak Ridger. She received a bachelor's degree from Transylvania University and her master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Kentucky.
