Biography
Johanna Cleary worked for 25 years in journalism, including stints in public television, commercial and public radio, and newspapers. She was also a marketing and public relations practitioner for media and arts organizations. Cleary is one of three co-authors of the book The Best of Pulitzer Prize News Writing.
Cleary received her doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research interests include newsroom management, broadcast history, and international communication and her work has been published in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Mass Communication and Society, Journalism History, the International Journal on Media Management, Gazette, the Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal, and Electronic News, among other journals.
From 1985-2001, Cleary worked for Alabama Public Television as a reporter/producer, director of marketing for the news department, and news director. While at APT, she won a number of regional and national journalism awards.
