Biography

Dr. Belio Martinez holds a Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Florida, an M.A. degree in communication studies from the State University of New York at Albany and a B.A. degree in cultural studies from Empire State College in Saratoga Springs, New York. Dr. Martinez also earned an A.A.S. degree in visual communication technology at Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, New York.

Dr. Martinez's professional experience includes his work in public opinion and public relations research while serving as Polling Director at the Siena Research Institute at Siena College in Loudonville, New York and as International Research Representative at Zogby International in Utica, New York. He also has extensive experience in media relations and campaign design, implementation and evaluation. He has provided public relations services such as media relations and research in the United States, Latin America and the Middle East. Additionally, Mr. Martinez has coordinated and overseen public opinion and public relations research internationally. Mr. Martinez is a New York State certified Spanish language translator and interpreter.  He has also performed research and professional work in English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

His current research interests include political communication, public relations strategies for nation building, communication for development, communication and culture and public relations targeting minority groups in the United States. He has presented papers to the International Communication Association, the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the National Communication Association and the New York State Communication Association. Dr. Martinez’s teaching areas include communication theory, public relations writing, public relations research, international and ethnic public relations and visual communication.
