Advertising

Student Learning Outcome (SLO) #6 = “Conceptualize and create persuasive messages for a variety of media.”

Method:

Students in each section of in ADV 4101, Copy and Visualization. are graded by faculty with a rubric on how they present their advertising project. The SLO 6 instrument measures five critical concepts:

  1. Objectives
  2. Relevant attention
  3. Clearly communicating the message
  4. Visualization and copy
  5. Effectiveness

SLO 6 is assessed as follows, based on the attached rubric:

  • An average of the graded responses of 0 (unanswered) to 2 out of 4 is below expectations
  • An average of the graded responses of 2-2.9 out of 4 is near expectations
  • An average of the graded responses of 3-3.9 out of 4 meets expectations
  • An average of the graded responses of 4 out of 4 exceeds expectations

Journalism

SLO #2: = “Use ethical reasoning skills to resolve dilemmas currently faced by journalists.”

Responsibility = JOU 4700 Problems and Ethics in Journalism

Assessment: Essay exam distinguishing between moral relativism and ethical reasoning as applied to current journalism dilemma.

The attached rubric is used to assess essay exam in JOU 4700 Problems and Ethics in Journalism.

Public Relations

SLO #3 = “To defend professional ethical principles and the importance of truth, honesty, accuracy, fairness and diversity.”

SLO #8 = “To write correctly and clearly in forms and styles appropriate for public relations practice.”

The attached rubric is be used to assess all final communication plans in PUR 4100 sections.

Telecommunication

The attached rubric is used to assess SLO’s 2 ( Understand professional ethical principles and the importance of truth, accuracy, fairness and diversity) and 4 (Gather information, conduct research and evaluate information by methods appropriate to the telecommunication professions)
