Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Program in Telecommunication

This program enables selected undergraduate students in the Telecommunication Department’s Management Sequence to begin an accelerated program leading to the MAMC in Telecommunication. This combination is particularly effective, since the MAMC in Telecommunication emphasizes courses preparing students seeking careers in management, research, and policy.

In this program, up to 12 hours of graduate level courses are taken by undergraduate students in their junior and senior years. These hours count towards the 124 hours required for the BS—and also count towards the 30+ hours of the MA. (Hours required for the MA depend on whether a student is in a thesis, or non-thesis track.) As per University rules, no course may be transferred into the graduate program in which the student has earned a grade below a “B.”

Students can be admitted to the 4-1 program starting in their Junior year, and are formally admitted to the graduate program in the spring of their senior year. A recommendation to admit a student to the program will made by a committee consisting of the student’s undergraduate advisor, the department graduate coordinator, and the department chair, or designee. There is no guarantee that students admitted to the 4-1 program as undergraduates will be admitted to the MA program if they fail to meet the minimum grade point and Graduate Record Exam (GRE) requirements, or, if in the judgment of the department graduate faculty, the student should not be admitted.

Requirements for admission are a minimum 3.2 GPA. To be admitted to the graduate program, a 1200 GRE score (combined Verbal and Quantitative; 550 minimum verbal) is required. The GRE exam should be taken sufficiently in advance to allow for a timely admission decision.

Students admitted to the program will make the following substitutions in their undergraduate requirements:
