Minor in Mass Communication Studies
Requirements
- Students applying for a Minor in Mass Communication Studies must file a formal application at the Office of Student Services in 1000 Weimer Hall. Two (2) courses must be completed before your application will be approved.
- All applicants must have a 3.00 or higher UF cumulative grade point average.
- At least nine hours for the Minor must be completed in residence at the University of Florida.
- All courses for the Minor must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. S/U grades are not acceptable.
- Individual Problems courses (4905) may not be applied toward the Minor.
- The specific course requirements are as follows:
Complete Four courses:
ADV 3008 - Elements of Advertising - 3 hours
PUR 3000 - Principles of Public Relations - 3 hours
RTV 3007 - Introduction to Telecommunication - 3 hours
RTV 3405 - TV & American Society - 3 hours
MMC 2604 - Mass Media and You - 3 hours
Complete One of the following courses:
ADV 3500 - Advertising Research - 3 hours

PUR 3500 - Public Relations Research - 3 hours
(Dept. permission - Weimer 2085)
JOU 4004 - History of Journalism - 3 hours
MMC 1702 - Rock’n’Roll & American Society - 3 hours
Total hours required: 15 hours
- You must be in your upper division college to apply. You must use an official application form.
- You may not be a major in the College of Journalism and Communications.
- You must obtain the approval of your college dean prior to coming to this office for final approval.
- You must at least be one full semester away from graduation.
