Journalism
Equipment Requirement
Each student majoring in Journalism is required to own the following equipment and software on the first day of the semester in which the student is enrolled in a course that requires it. Those courses include (but are not limited to):
- JOU 3220C Visual Journalism
- JOU 3109c Multimedia Writing
- JOU 3101 Reporting
- JOU 3346L Multimedia Reporting
Students who have completed one or more of the courses listed above are expected to own the following equipment and software and to keep it in good working order.
Hardware
- MacBook Pro laptop computer (meeting specifications set by our faculty and detailed on the UF Bookstore website)
- Zoom H2 digital audio recorder (manufactured by Samson) + 2 GB SD card or larger * See a review: http://transom.org/?p=1999
- A digital still camera that meets or exceeds ALL of these specifications:
- 7 megapixels or better
- Image stabilization (essential)
- Video at 640 x 480 at 30 fps (30 fps is absolutely essential); video must include audio
- 3x OPTICAL zoom or better
- USB-2 output
- Second battery if lithium-ion
- + 2 GB high-speed SD card or larger *
* Two (2) SD cards are required: One for the audio recorder and another for the camera.
Software
- Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel (latest version)
- Adobe CS Design Premium (latest version)
- Audacity (free audio editing software)
- Soundslides Plus
- iLife (latest version)
