Joseph L. Brechner Eminent Scholar of Freedom of Information
The College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida is seeking applicants for the position of Joseph L. Brechner Eminent Scholar of Freedom of Information, to begin July 1, 2008. The College seeks a senior faculty member with a distinguished record of scholarship, and graduate teaching who will teach graduate research courses in the area of mass media law, legal research methods, and First Amendment theory.
The successful applicant will advise masters and doctoral students and contribute to graduate program policy making and provide leadership as Coordinator of the media law program, which includes MA and PhD degrees in Mass Communication, as well as joint MAMC/JD and PhD/JD degrees.
The Eminent Scholar will direct the Marion Brechner Citizen Access Project (www.citizenaccess.org) and supervise its staff, which currently includes an administrative assistant and graduate research assistants.
Candidates may have experience or background in any professional communications field and a variety of media law subjects. He or she must demonstrate an interest in, and be willing to devote a substantial amount of time to, research focused on access to government meetings and records. The Eminent Scholar will also interact with journalists, lawyers, policy makers, and the public.
Candidates must have an earned PhD. She or he must also have a record of distinction appropriate to the rank of tenured full professor at the University of Florida.
Salary and benefits are commensurate with the experience and qualifications necessary to earn designation as an Eminent Scholar.
