Some of Gainesville's best bands have the weirdest names. A sampling
of how some of them came to be:
-
Morivivi
www.Morivivi.net
"Morivivi is a type of plant that grows in tropic regions. In Spanish,
it translates into 'I died, I lived.' When any living organism touches
the plant, it instantly goes from green to a dark, dead purple and seems
to shrivel and die. But the plant comes back to life. So the Puerto
Rican adage speaks of someone with a strong will." —Gabe DePaz, guitarist

Can't Cut Wood on a Bummer"

Brickfoot Ninja Squad
www.brickfootninjasquad.com
"It’s an adaptation of an ancient Japanese text from around the 12th
Century. It spoke of a village gripped by fear because of a group of
assassins who lived in a nearby forest known as 'Ninjas of the Ceramic
Feet.' Or something like that. Brickfoot just sounded better." —Conor
Mitchell, guitarist
-
Jabberwocky
www.jabberwockyband.com
"It derives from the meaning of pure nonsense and absurdity. It's from
a poem written by Lewis Carroll and found in 'Alice In Wonderland.'
Jabberwocky is music created with nonsensical ideas." —Joey Syler, vocalist

Less Than Jake
www.lessthanjake.com
"My parents had an 80-pound English bulldog. He had his own private
space on the couch. My parents would get take-out food just to feed
him, and he was treated like a king. His name was 'Jake.' So, everything
in my house was less...than...Jake. Also, 'Jake' is an old '20s term
for 'average, smooth.'" —Vinnie, drummer
-
Pawn Rook Four
www.thepr4.com
"It has something to do with a chess move. Supposedly it's the worst
move you can make; a pawn to rook four." —Tom Gilhuley, drummer
-
The Mercury Program
www.mercuryprogram.com
"We needed a name...I was reading a book on the space program...it sounded
good… so we went with it. Pretty boring story, eh?" —Tom Reno, guitarist
