recent developmentsWUFT-FM celebrates 20th anniversary
A live broadcast of a carillon concert from UFs Century Tower marked the 20th anniversary of WUFT-FM/Classic 89, the National Public Radio affiliate in the College. The original music, Twain Ten Fanfares, was composed by Willis Bodine, UF professor of music. Dean Terry Hynes was host for a reception in the Weimer Hall Courtyard. Classic 89, a 100,000-watt station, signed on Sept. 27, 1981 and serves 16 north Florida counties. Construction of a 9,000-square foot addition to Weimer Hall will provide studios and master control facilities for the station, especially for the Radio Reading Service, a program for the visually impaired. The anniversary celebration will continue throughout the year, with live concerts and presentations by NPR correspondents Liane Hansen and Neal Conan. Richard A. Lehner is general manager of WUFT-TV/FM, and Henri Pensis is station manager. The station provides students with on-air experience in announcing,
production and news. |
