recent developmentsJohn Sutherland, Churchill Roberts new department leaders
They are the new kids on the block this fall. Sutherland has served on the faculty since 1978, except for a two-year period when he worked for the Swanson-Holland advertising agency in Lincoln, Neb. Sutherland earned B.B.A. and M.B.A. degrees at Texas A&M University and Ph.D. at Michigan State University. Roberts joined the UF faculty in 1998 from the University of West Florida where he served as chair of the Department of Communication for 15 years. The Documentary Institute film, Freedom Never Dies: The Legacy of Harry T. Moore, won the Erik Barnouw Award earlier this year. The Freedom Forum sponsored special presentations in Arlington, Va. and New York City. Roberts succeeded Dr. F. Leslie Smith, TEL 1961, professor of telecommunication, who returned to full-time teaching after five years as chair. He joined the faculty in 1982. |
