Four new tenure-track faculty members joined the College this fallin
advertising, journalism and telecommunication.
Dr.
Justin Brown, assistant professor of telecommunication, is a
specialist in telecommunication policy and regulation and media law. He
earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees of Penn State University. He has worked
professionally as a copy editor for the Oregon Daily Emerald
and as a team relations leader for Target Stores.
Dr.
Chang-Hoan Cho and Professor Jorge Villegas
are new assistant professors of advertising. Cho earned his Ph.D. degree
at the University of Texas at Austin in 1999, and Villegas will complete
his degree there this fall.
Cho came from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received the American
Academy of Advertising 1999 Doctoral Dissertation Award and the @d:tech
scholarship award in 1997 and 1998 for research focusing on the impact
of technology on advertising, marketing and communications.
Villegas previously taught at Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores
de Monterrey, Mexicos largest private university. He earned B.A.
and M.B.A. degrees there. He has been a freelance writer, video production
company owner and advertising agency research director.
Professor Ted
Spiker is assistant professor of magazine journalism. He joined
the faculty from Mens Health magazine, where he was senior
editor. He earned his M.S. degree in journalism at Columbia University.
He was editor of Delaware Today magazine and a reporter for Delaware
State News. He taught part-time at Lehigh University and the University
of Delaware.

faculty notes
Professor John Freeman, associate professor of journalism,
received the Robert F. Garland Educator Award from the National Press
Photographers Association at their annual convention in Memphis in June.
Dr. Lynda Lee Kaid, associate dean for graduate studies
and research, was co-winner (with Mary Banwart) of the Catt Prize for
outstanding research on women and politics from Iowa State University.
She received a $1,000 stipend at the March 28 presentation.
Dr. Robert Kendall, professor emeritus of public relations,
has received a Fulbright Scholar grant to teach in Estonia, beginning
in January 2002. He retired in 1999 after 24 years on faculty.
Dr. Juan Carlos Molleda, assistant professor of public
relations, received the "Outstanding Dissertation Award" from
the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of
South Carolina in April.
Dr. Joseph R. Pisani, professor of advertising, is the
president-elect of the American Academy of Advertising. He stepped down
as chair of the Department of Advertising on June 30 and is on sabbatical
this fall.
