Laurence B. Alexander , MAMC 1983
Professor of journalism, interim associate dean of the UF
Graduate School
After earning my master’s degree, I never thought I’d return.
Not that I didn’t have a good time in grad school; it was a blast.
Thanks to the communigator, I held on to the memories twice a
year. I would drop everything to read the cover story and see
what my old classmates were up to. I still drop everything
when a new edition arrives, only now, it’s because I proof and
edit while I catch up on classmates and other alumni.

Karina Fernandez
Senior in journalism
Most of the time, getting caught doodling in class earns you a big “F,” except in my case. I was discovered, not punished, for sketching my professor during class. He gave me the opportunity to draw for the communigator. My doodling has evolved from primitive to intricate and from a hobby into a possible career choice. What can I say? A little doodling never hurt anyone.

Krystina Gustafson
Sophomore in journalism
Walking into the communigator office as a freshman, I never imagined I’d be offered a chance to write for the highly regarded magazine, let alone be entrusted with the responsibility that’s been bestowed upon me. Editor Boaz Dvir, JM 1988, has shown faith in my abilities, giving me the confidence to write, edit, manage the office and, most important, interview faculty and alumni. I’ve grown as a journalist and I’m grateful to have three more years of learning ahead of me.

Carly Litzenberger
Senior in telecommunication
By the end of junior year, I’d learned a great deal about broadcast-style writing, the history of television and programming techniques for radio. I wanted to branch out. The communigator let me do just that. I was able to research, interview, write and design all in one summer. The knowledge I received is invaluable.
