SPJThe UF chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists has been named the most outstanding among 120 chapters nationally in 2001. The chapter also received the Sweepstakes Award in the Southeast region for winning the most awards in the Mark of Excellence competition. Julie Lyons and Kate Palmer served as presidents during the year. Professor David Carlson was faculty adviser. PhotojournalismSeven Gators participated in the prestigious Eddie Adams Photo Workshop in upstate New York this fall. Top young photographers from all over the nation send portfolios to compete for 100 places. Representing UF were undergraduate students Michael Martina, Jason Parkhurst and Danielle Rappaport and graduate students Jen Sens and Carlton Ward. Yvonne Malch, JM 2001, and Loretta Rae (Keith), MA 2002, helped direct the program. TennisJessica Lehnhoff, a UF telecommunication major, has won the Gladys Heldman Award, given annually to the top women’s collegiate tennis player. The award is based on academics, athletics, sportsmanship, character and community contributions.The Associated Press reported that Lehnhoff is a five-time All-American and a three-time Collegiate Grand Slam champion, including the NCAA Doubles title. |
