Alumni assume national leadership positions for professional groups

Two graduates of the College have assumed high leadership positions in national professional organizations.

Diane Hooten McFarlin, JM 1976, is president of the American Society of Newspaper Editors. She is publisher of the Sarasota Herald Tribune, part of the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group.

C. Del Galloway, PR 1981, MA 1983, is treasurer and president-elect of the Public Relations Society of America. He is executive vice president and COO of Husk Jennings Advertising in Jacksonville.

McFarlin is a former executive editor of The Gainesville Sun. She was president of the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors and chaired the ASNE’s Credibility Committee.

Galloway has served in public relations positions with AT&T American Transtech, Young & Rubicam and Cohn & Wolfe in Tampa and Caraway Kemp Communications in Jacksonville. The Florida Public Relations Association gave him its highest honor, the Dillin Award, in August.

Both McFarlin and Galloway have served on advisory councils in the College and on the College Capital Campaign Executive Committee.

Debbie Mason, PR 1981, serves on the national board of PRSA. She is a public relations counselor with offices in Fort Lauderdale and Perry.
