New faculty, staff join College this fall

Four new faculty recruits in the College this fall are evenly split in their loyalties. Two each earned their terminal degrees at the University of Alabama and the University of Texas at Austin.

Three new assistant professors joined the Department of Public Relations.

Dr. Spiro Kiousis came from Iowa State University where he had taught since 2000. He earned B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of San Francisco, Stanford University and Texas, respectively. He is accredited in public relations.

A specialist in political communication, he is teaching public relations writing and strategy courses.

Dr. Margot “Meg” Opdycke Lamme completed her Ph.D. degree in May at Alabama. She earned B.A. and M.A. degrees at Emory University and Georgia State University, respectively. She is accredited in public relations.

She spent more than 15 years in public relations positions in Atlanta, including seven years with Cox Enterprises Inc. She teaches public relations writing as well as an introductory graduate course.

Dr. Michael A. Mitrook came from the University of Central Florida where he had taught since 1997. He earned B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, University of Georgia and Alabama, respectively.

His eight-year professional career included media relations, public affairs and sales.

He teaches public relations writing and graduate research methods courses.

Professor Tim Wilkerson, an August M.F.A. graduate at Texas, joined the Department of Telecommunication where he teaches electronic field production. He earned a B.A. degree at Southern Illinois University in cinema and photography.

He spent five years in corporate/industrial video production and his work was featured at Cinema Texas, South by Southwest and other film festivals. He studied Egyptian filmmaking as a Fulbright Scholar in 1994-95.

Staff

Dr. Suzana Sargent has been reassigned to the College from the Division of Continuing Education and will serve as director of international programs through January 2003. She has helped to establish cooperative programs with Casper Libero University in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A native of Brazil, she earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in education at Michigan State University.

Karen Cody, MA 1999, former assistant director of the Knight Center in the College, has returned as coordinator of administrative services in the Dean’s office. Cody was most recently an M.B.A. admissions officer at UF.
